Our Philosophy
Living the Ikigai Way
“Ikigai” is a Japanese guideline to live a meaningful life, blending what you love, what you’re good at, what the world needs, and what sustains you. At Abel’s Garden, we embrace this holistic approach to nurture purpose, joy, and fulfilment. Our programs and spaces—from gardening to mentorship—guide residents to rediscover their passions, fostering vitality and connection in their golden years.
Our Story
Our Story
At Abel’s Garden, we see retirement as a new beginning
At Abel’s Garden, we see retirement as a new beginning. Founded in 2023 after 15 years of thoughtful planning, our community in Karimannoor, Idukki, Kerala, was inspired by retirement homes in Kerala, the US, and Ireland. A group of visionaries, including a director with experience in Irish nursing homes, dreamed of a 5-star retirement haven where like-minded seniors could thrive together.
Set on 8 acres of flat, geriatric-friendly land surrounded by waters from Malinchi Hill, Abel’s Garden integrates the Ikigai philosophy into every detail. Our 130 villaments, designed with Silpi Architects, and 5 acres of lush gardens create a tranquil environment where residents engage in activities that spark happiness and purpose, from mentoring local youth to pursuing creative passions.

Passion
At Abel’s Garden, we encourage residents to reconnect with what sets their hearts alight. Whether it’s painting in our creative studios, tending to raised garden beds, or sharing life experiences through storytelling nights, we provide spaces and programs that ignite joy and creativity, ensuring every day feels vibrant and fulfilling.
Commitment
Our dedication to residents goes beyond care—it’s about creating a home where everyone thrives. With 24-hour support, chef-crafted dining, and wellness programs like yoga and therapy pools, we’re committed to nurturing physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, all rooted in the Ikigai philosophy of purposeful living.
Team Work
Community is the heart of Abel’s Garden. From weekly community dinners in our gourmet dining hall to mentorship programs with local schools, we foster bonds that make every resident feel valued. Our Ikigai Centre, with its welcoming lobby and community hall, is designed for collaboration, connection, and shared growth.
